About the Authors

Jenny Line

Jenny Line teaches regular chemistry and AP chemistry at Carlisle High School. This is her third year teaching after her student teaching semester.

Her undergraduate experience was at Gettysburg College. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology while taking classes towards a concentration in education. She is currently enrolled in a Master's program at the University of Pennsylvania to earn a degree in chemistry education.

In her spare time, Jenny loves to run, play soccer, go hiking, and watch the T.V. show "24." She hates scary movies.

Mike Dappolone

Mike Dappolone teaches chemistry at Cherry Hill High School East in Cherry Hill, NJ. He's been teaching since 2004 (following a brief stint in manufacturing), and he'll stay in education until they hammer the last nail into the lid of his pine box.

His undergraduate work resulted miraculously in a Bachelor's of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He's currently working on his Master's of Chemistry Education at the University of Pennsylvania, expected to graduate in October, 2009 (you can visit his coursework site for UPenn here).

He loves Spongebob, hockey, paintball, and teaching. He's been 26 years old for the last half-decade.

The photo above, taken of his bad side from a satellite during one of his paintball outings, is a vague representation of his actual appearance. Some people say he resembles Ludwig Boltzmann...what do you think?

Mark Hayden

Mark Hayden teaches Chemistry at Central Bucks High School West in Doyletown, Pennsylvania.

He presents technology-based staff development workshops and won a district award in 2006-2007 for his role in integrating Classrooms for the Future (CFF) grant technologies into secondary science and mathematics classrooms.

In his spare time, Mark rescues stray cats and leaps tall buildings in a single bound.

Mark Bruder

My name is Mark A. Bruder and I have been teaching high school for the past six years. My first year teaching was at Archbishop Ryan H.S. in the Northeast. The past five years I have been teaching at Cardinal O'Hara H.S. in Springfield, PA. I have taught high school junior chemistry, honors junior chemistry, freshman honors chemistry and freshman physical science. This coming academic year, I will be teaching three classes of junior chemistry, one class of honors sophomores and one class of junior chemistry II.

I was born and raised in Bucks County, PA. I received a great high-school education from Council Rock H.S. I thought I wanted to become a doctor but after college, I realized that was not the career for me. I remembered how much I enjoyed my high school teachers and decided to make a career change into teaching. I have never looked back. I just earned my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education with a focus in chemistry from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia and looking forward to continuing my education.

I am currently engaged to Megan who is not only a chemistry teacher herself but she is also a graduate of the PENN program. Megan and I are going to be married in August of 2009.
